Ah, the typical hair dryer. What can be done? Give it a bright, sparkly new color? How about a rubberized hand grip? Or even better, chrome switches!

How about turning it sideways for a completely new user experience? That was the outcome of this hair dryer redesign. A run of the mill hair dryer was dismantled down to the motor brushes and analyzed. Then it was rethought and reconfigured.

It’s amazing how a simple twist can dramatically change a product, and this exercise was no exception. By putting the motor at the bottom of the handle, the previously awkward and clunky hair dryer is now a sophisticated piece of bathroom sculpture that one can dry her hair with. Not only is it gorgeous as it stands on its own, but no longer is the motor sitting awkwardly at the top of the unit, making it hard to hold and aim, screaming right next to the user’s ears.
